More than 2,000 scholars awarded to-date to pursue undergraduate studies at local and foreign universities under the Maybank Group Scholarship Programme.
In a time where education plays a critical role in shaping the future, Maybank recently announced the recipients of its prestigious Maybank Group Scholarship Award for 2023 at the scholarship awards ceremony held in Maybank Academy, Bangi.
Continuing from its recent success of awarding five ASEAN nationals from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam via the ASEAN-Maybank Scholarship at a ceremony held on 8 August 2023 during the 56th ASEAN Day celebration in Jakarta, Indonesia, Maybank now continues its tradition of continuously investing in the nation’s future leaders by awarding scholarships to deserving Malaysian students for 2023.
This year, the Board of Trustees of Maybank Foundation have approved 69 exceptional students from diverse backgrounds as recipients of the Maybank Group Scholarship Award. 60 students will be pursuing their studies in top public local universities, with another 9 students will be pursuing their studies in America, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

The Maybank Group Scholarship Programme, which has been a core corporate responsibility initiative of the Maybank Group since the 1970s, is aimed at supporting talented and deserving Malaysian students, providing them with a golden opportunity to pursue higher education in their respective fields of interest.
As one of the leading financial institutions in the region, Maybank has been a strong advocate for educational advancement. For the past 51 years, more than 2,000 students have benefited from Maybank’s scholarship programme by providing sponsorships to deserving Malaysian students, especially those from the lower income bracket, to pursue quality higher education at leading public universities in the country, as well as in America, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Many of its past scholars who are now Maybankers have emerged as competent leaders in their respective fields, showcasing their exceptional skills and expertise both nationally and internationally.
The Maybank Group Scholarship Programme aims to create a positive impact by providing financial aid and mentorship to exceptional students who demonstrate the potential to become future leaders. This esteemed program emphasises academic excellence, leadership qualities, and a passion for making meaningful contributions to society.
The scholarship selection process at Maybank is extremely rigorous and comprehensive. This year, more than 1,800 applications for the scholarship were received, and each of the candidates were evaluated based on multiple criterias, including academic performance, extracurricular involvement, leadership qualities, and personal achievements. The review includes a thorough assessment of applicants' academic records, Curriculum Vitae (CVs), family household income, amongst others. After an initial shortlisting, candidates are further evaluated through assessment centres and interviews to determine the final recipients.
The Maybank Group Scholarship Award not only offers financial support but also provides recipients with invaluable opportunities for personal and professional growth. The scholarship recipients will receive mentorship from senior executives at Maybank, access to networking events, and internships within the Group. This exposure will empower them to gain real-world experience and develop critical skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of the real working environment upon their graduation as all scholarship recipients will be absorbed by Maybank with the aim of developing these talents professionally via a rewarding career with the Group.
The Maybank Group Scholarship programme, administered by Maybank Foundation, is in line with Maybank’s second sustainability commitment out of its four headline commitments, in which the Group aims to “improve the lives of 2 million households across ASEAN by 2025”. It also meets the United Nation’s Sustainability Development Goals 4, 10 and 17, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education.
The foundation’s support and commitment to invest in the future generation through education goes beyond the Scholarship Awards via its other initiatives to help promote excellence in education including the award-winning Cashville Kidz financial literacy programme as well as the ASEAN-Maybank Scholarship programme, a partnership between Maybank Foundation and ASEAN Secretariat.
