Over 20,000 employees worldwide commemorated the 11th Maybank Group Global CR Day

 

Over 20,000 Maybank employees worldwide commemorated the 11th Maybank Group Global CR Day where they engaged directly with over 11,000 community members in their respective locations, by continuing to play a role in impacting lives and the environment through sustainable initiatives.

 

With the theme “Adapt, Change, Thrive”, Maybank Group Global CR Day is part of the Group’s flagship employee volunteerism programme, Cahaya Kasih (CK) which is a platform that enables and empowers Maybankers throughout the Group to come together as agents of change in making positive and long-lasting impact with the communities and for the environment. Maybank Group Global CR Day is a day that Maybankers get the opportunity to showcase their year-long commitment towards their CK initiatives. It is believed to be one of the largest single community programme undertaken simultaneously in one day, by a Malaysian-based corporation on a global scale.

 

The global initiative is in line with Maybank’s Sustainability Commitments namely to improving the lives of two million households across ASEAN by 2025, and achieving one million hours per annum on sustainability and delivering one thousand significant UN SDG-related outcomes by 2025.

 

Group Chief Human Capital Officer of Maybank, Datuk (Dr) Nora Manaf, said that the Cahaya Kasih employee volunteerism programme including Global CR Day is an important initiative where employees reinforce Maybank’s mission of Humanising Financial Services by contributing to its Sustainability commitments, underlined in its M25+ strategy.

 

“As a leading financial institution in the region, Maybank aims to champion this large scale corporate responsibility initiative which began 13 years ago. This year, our social impact programmes are catered to further alleviate the burden of the communities, led by our employees as a force of good, by implementing robust and high-impact sustainability initiatives that would enhance the livelihood of the people and liveability of our planet, post pandemic. Our main objective is to ensure that the Cahaya Kasih employee volunteerism programme remains relevant and continues to address real world issues while equipping the underserved and unserved segment for the future.”

 

In Kuala Lumpur, 90 employees from the office of Maybank’s Group President & CEO, Dato’ Khairussaleh Ramli collaborated with the Autism Café Project (ACP), a café run by autistic youths under its theme ‘Cooking with ACP’. The main initiative was to drive greater awareness on autism among children and young adults giving them the opportunity to acquire new skills, enhance their level of social interaction, communication and confidence. It also provides a safe and sensory-friendly environment for the children to further develop their entrepreneurial skills, helping them grow and progress in life. In extension to this, the cooking programme will positively impact the homeless communities in Kuala Lumpur by providing them food and drinks prepared by Maybankers and special children.

Employees from the office of Maybank’s Group President & CEO, Dato’ Khairussaleh Ramli hosted the ‘Cooking with ACP initiative with the Autism Café Project (ACP), a café run by autistic youths in conjunction with the 11th Maybank Group Global CR Day.

 

Held at Laman @ Menara Maybank, among the activities, included a cooking and baking sessions where beneficiaries were seen baking croissants and Maybankers preparing ingredients to cook 200 chicken Kapitan dishes with rice, drinks and fruits to be packed and distributed by Maybankers and ACP for the underserved communities of Anjung Kembara, Pusat Transit Gelandangan Kuala Lumpur and Jalan Tun HS Lee.

After the cooking session, Dato’ Khairussaleh Ramli proceeded to distribute 100 meal packets and drinks to the underserved communities in the area of Jalan Tun HS Lee, while the remaining 100 food packets were distributed to the underserved communities of Anjung Kembara, Jalan Pahang.

A fully digital, Maybank QR-pay enabled bazaar was also set up and tended by the autistic children, selling various items such as croissants, craft items such as beads bracelets, bags and cookies. The bazaar provided participants of the initiative the opportunity to contribute to ACP’s cause by purchasing products prepared by children.

 

Earlier in the morning, Dato’ Khairussaleh and Group CEO, Global Banking Maybank, Dato’ Muzaffar Hisham were in the areas of Sungai Klang Midvalley, with employees from the Group Global Banking Risk department & Financial Institutional Group in which they collaborated with the Friends of Sungai Klang Mid Valley River 3 and Impactlution Sdn Bhd for the ‘River Clean Keeps Earth Evergreen!’ initiative. The programme focused on conducting various cleaning initiatives to further maintain the condition of areas in Sungai Klang Mid Valley such as collecting waste found within the garden area of Sungai Klang, trimming leaves of banana trees as well as performing waste collection at the river bank.

Elsewhere, around the globe, members of the Board, senior management and employees at various locations, came out in full force to take part in their respective initiatives which included environmental awareness programmes, teaching children and the less fortunate living skills or financial planning, spending time with senior citizens and orphans, empowering the disabled and marginalised, and many more.
