Extravagant performances, striking costumes and cheers from guests echoed at Maybank’s Menara Terrace as the Group brought the Chinese New Year celebrations to a close by hosting 100 children from three homes to a new year feast.

The event began with a calligraphy activity where some attendees were given the chance to create their own unique Chinese calligraphies with the help of a few calligraphy masters.

The sound of drum beats was then heard as spectators watched in awe when two ‘lions’ came to life and began performing acrobatic feats and manoeuvres on high poles.

Maybank Chairman, Datuk Mohaiyani Shamsudin and Group President & CEO, Datuk Abdul Farid Alias then presented Ang Pows and goodie bags filled with festive treats and mandarin oranges to the children from Yayasan SunBeams Home, Rainbow Home and Dignity for Children Foundation who were specially invited to share the auspicious occasion. Members of the Maybank Board and Group EXCO were also seen joining in to give out oranges and Ang Pows to other guests who attended the event.

Maybank Group Chief Human Capital Officer, Nora Abdul Manaf said that festive celebrations have always been a part of the Maybank Group’s annual calendar of must-have events, to ensure that employees and the public are reminded of the blessings we enjoy arising from the diversity of Malaysia’s peoples.

“We are touched, and delighted at the same time, to see the smiles on the faces of the children who took time to celebrate this special moment with us. We are sometimes so busy with our daily routines that we forget the importance of sharing special occasions with those who may otherwise be left out,” she explained.

“Our goal is to bring communities from all walks of life together to celebrate the joys of festive events such as Chinese New Year with those who are less fortunate, which is very much in line with our mission to humanise financial services and being at the heart of the community.”

The event was further brightened up with laughter and cheers as a grand ‘Yee Sang’ tossing ceremony was held to signify the hope for good fortune.

One of the children from Rainbow Home in Cheras, Terence Teo, 11, said he was grateful and happy to be given the opportunity to celebrate the New Year at Menara Maybank and hoped he would be invited again next year.

“It is my first time coming here and I really enjoyed the performances and the variety of food. More excitingly is that I received my first Ang Pow this year from Maybank,” he said.
