The halls of Menara Maybank were filled with joy shown by 100 specially invited guests at the Maybank Chinese New Year celebration held recently as they joined hands with staff to welcome the year of the Rooster.

Cheers and laughter were heard at the halls of Menara Maybank and guests were left in amazement from the lion dragon and phoenix dance performance done by the Hong Teck Dragon & Lion Dance group. The crowd were in awe as mandarin oranges were skilfully thrown towards them by the lion dancers who balanced themselves on high poles, as well as performed other stunts which kept them on the edge of their seats.

The event saw special guests from Rumah Charis and House of Joy as well as senior citizens and children from Ti Ratana Welfare Society who were all uniquely dressed in their traditional attire. The Group’s Board members and senior management were also present at the event.

Maybank Chairman, Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor, Group President & CEO, Datuk Farid Abdul Alias and Group Chief Human Capital Officer of Maybank, Nora Manaf kicked off the event by presenting ‘Ang Pows’ to the invited guests to share luck and prosperity for the Chinese New Year. Goodie bags which include cracker biscuits were also presented to the special guests.

Group Chief Human Capital Officer of Maybank, Nora Manaf said, “Every year, we look forward to celebrating Chinese New Year as we do with other festivals as it allows us to celebrate as one big family, taking time off from our busy schedule and focus on being close to the community. This is how we celebrate as a ‘Tiger’ family which resonates with our mission in humanising financial services.”

“At Maybank, we do our best to commemorate major festivities in order to emphasize on the importance of diversity in the workplace. We hope that our special guests as well as staff who were present at the event enjoyed themselves as much we did,” added Nora Manaf.

The event ended with a grand ‘Yee Sang’ tossing ceremony in which the special guests, accompanied by Maybank board members, senior management and other employees were seen engaging in the traditional ritual, together wishing for a year of good fortune and prosperity.

One of the invited guests from Ti Ratana Welfare Society, Leong Chee Meng, 27, said he was delighted to be given the opportunity to celebrate Chinese New Year at Menara Maybank.

“This is my first time celebrating Chinese New Year with Maybank. I feel very happy and excited to be here. It is definitely one of the best celebrations that I have experienced so far. Thank you Maybank!”

Meanwhile, Goh Ming Cheng, 8, from House of Joy said, “Although I did not manage to catch any mandarin oranges from the lions, I felt very excited and happy watching all the performances!”
