Maybank Foundation today continued its charity initiatives by celebrating the children, single mothers and underprivileged families of Kampung Kerdas, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur.

About 200 residents were treated to a breaking of fast (buka puasa) event which was hosted by Maybank Chairman, Tan Sri Dato‟ Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor, members of Maybank Foundation Board of Trustees and senior management of Maybank.

The underprivileged guests also received duit raya and contribution of daily provisions such as rice, condensed milk, sugar and detergent.

Speaking at the event, Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin said the „buka puasa’ event was part of the Group‟s ongoing efforts to foster closer ties with communities where it operates.

Kampung Kerdas was chosen for this initiative in conjunction with Ramadan this time. This programme is a continuation of an earlier initiative by the Bank to help raise the standard of education amongst the children at Kg. Kerdas.

“The relationship between Maybank and Kampung Kerdas started way back in 2011 when our Community Financial Services sector partnered with Pusat Tuisyen Akademi i-Sina to identify the underprivileged students here and help them to excel academically.”

“This programme has proven to be successful and it has indeed encouraged us to organise more of such programmes in the future, particularly for the younger generation as they are the ones who will shape the country‟s future. We would like to see the children in this village growing-up with confidence and determination. We would like to also ensure that the local community here benefit fully from this partnership with Maybank,” he added.

At the event, Maybank Foundation also contributed an electric wheelchair to Roslan Ismail from Kota Baru, Kelantan who was born disabled.

The contribution from Maybank Foundation is part of Maybank‟s Cahaya Kasih corporate responsibility and employee volunteerism programme. Maybank Foundation actively undertakes diverse Corporate Responsibilty programmes which focuses on education, community development, environment conservation and health causes.
