The Tabung Wira Lahad Datu Media Prima received a boost today when Maybank Foundation handed over a contribution of RM210,000 to the Fund at a special presentation event held in Sri Pentas, Petaling Jaya.

The sum comprised a RM200,000.00 contribution from Maybank Foundation as well as RM10,109.40 which was raised from the public during the recent Maybank Malaysian Golf Open which ran from 21-24 March 2013 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC).

The amount of RM10,109.40 comprised cash donations collected from the public during the tournament as well as proceeds from the auction of golf items signed by world renowned golfers.

The total sum of RM210,000 was handed over by Maybank Group Chief Financial Officer En Mohamed Rafique Merican to Mr Seelan Paul, CEO, Radio Networks/Strategy Officer, TV Networks, Media Prima.

Rafique said that the initiative by Maybank, through Maybank Foundation as well as the collections from the public during the Maybank Malaysian Golf Open, was to recognise and honour the sacrifices made by our security personnel in Lahad Datu.

“As a bank that is committed to being at the heart of the community, Maybank wants to convey our appreciation to all those who were involved in defending the nation’s sovereignty arising from the recent incident,” he said. “As a community bank, we also felt that it would be good to offer the public a chance to also make their contributions through Maybank – hence we arranged for donation boxes during the tournament and also arranged for golf items to be signed by star players and auctioned for this cause”.

Rafique said that Maybank Foundation, which is the Group’s vehicle for regional corporate responsibility initiatives, will continue to play an active role in supporting social programmes that are sustainable and to benefit segments of the community who are most in need.
