Maybank Head of International, Abdul Farid Alias said, "We at Maybank are deeply saddened by the tragedy that has affected the people of Padang, and as a responsible corporate citizen, Maybank is committed to serving the needs of communities in locations we are in," said Abdul Farid.

"We are pleased to once again work with the NSTP Group and offer our banking channels for a humanitarian cause. It is our expression of concern and corporate responsibility to play our part in supporting this appeal. Our banking channels provide a convenient means for members of the public to join in the fund raising efforts," he added.

"We have also mobilised our staff at our subsidiary, Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII) to render assistance to those affected. In addition, Maybank and BII have also launched the BII staff assistance program to help our staff who are affected by the earthquake in Padang," said Abdul Farid.

"Indonesia is a key market for us in the region and we remain committed not only in offering valued banking services but also in contributing towards the social needs of the community in Indonesia, especially in these trying times."

"Our participation in this Fund is especially significant as it also extends to communities in the Philippines and Vietnam, countries where Maybank has a presence to date," he said.

Abdul Farid also hopes that the public will share their concerns and contribute voluntarily for this worthy cause. "Caring Malaysians who wish to help can contribute to the ‘Tabung Bencana NSTP-Media Prima' which will go a long way to help in a humanitarian effort to enable those affected to return to normalcy quickly."

Over the years, Maybank has offered its branch network and electronic channels to support a number of public fund raising efforts for either charity or humanitarian needs, leveraging on its wide network reach and customer base. These include the fundraising for the NSTP Fund For Gaza in January this year as well as other fund raising campaigns for the victims of the tsunami tragedy and the earthquakes in Iran and Sumatra.
