Dato' Richard Ho Ung Hun 1927 - 2008

Maybank wishes to express its deepest condolences to the family of the late Dato' Richard Ho Ung Hun, the Bank's former Vice-Chairman, who passed away early this morning after a short illness.

 

Dato' Richard Ho, 81, served faithfully as Vice-Chairman of Maybank from 1983 until 2007. Dato' Richard Ho also served as Chairman of several companies in the Maybank Group which included Mayban Trustees Berhad, Maybank International (L) Ltd, Maybank International Trust (Labuan) Berhad and Mayban International Trust (L) Ltd. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Aseambankers Malaysia Berhad.

 

Dato' Richard Ho had an illustrious career and served as a Member of Parliament from 1969 until 1982. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Road Transport and subsequently Deputy Minister of Finance in 1976. In 1978, he was the Minister without Portfolio in the Prime Minister's Department and subsequently named as the then Minister of Labour and Manpower in the same year.

 

Maybank Chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Basir Ahmad said today, "We are greatly saddened by the loss. The Board, management and staff will always remember Dato' Ho as a fine gentleman, a man of integrity who was truly committed and dedicated in his service to the Maybank Group. Personally, I have lost a dear friend and colleague, one who never failed to provide guidance, support and counsel whenever approached. We will indeed miss him."

 

Dato' Richard Ho leaves behind his wife Datin Mary Ho and children, Ignatius and Cecelia. The funeral service for the late Dato' Richard Ho will be held at 9am on Wednesday, 6 February 2008 at the Church of St. Ignatius, 2 Jalan SS25/23, Taman Plaza, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Those wishing to pay their last respects may also do so at the Church of St. Ignatius funeral parlour from 5.30pm - 10pm on Monday, 4 February and from 10am to 10pm on Tuesday, 5 February.
