RRRAWRRR! 2023: THE LABYRINTHS OF TOUCH

Maybank Foundation is proud to present the ‘‘RRRAWRRR! 2023: The Labyrinths of Touch - Maybank's Emerging Women Artists Show” featuring 12 women artists who seeks to challenge the role of tactility in the context of art and cultural spaces. The showcase also aims to inspire visitors to reflect on questions of accessibility and inclusion, encouraging a contemplation of the impact of the perceptual experience in both our lives and in relation to art.

 

The Labyrinths of Touch will take place from today until 24 March 2023 at the Balai Seni Maybank in Maybank Tower, Kuala Lumpur. It is open to the public between 10:00am – 5:00pm on weekdays, and 11:00am – 4:00pm on Saturdays; admission is free.

The exhibition provides a multi-sensorial experience through touch and sound, with many of the artworks to be interacted with through touch, and, or audio descriptions. Divided into four groups, the art pieces reflects on themes of exploration, reconciliation, remembrance, and hope, drawing on the complexities of touch from the multifaceted lens of women.

 

The exhibition highlights the work of up-and-coming artists from the local art scene such as Ain Rahman, Alaysia Chen, Alexdrina Chong, Cheong See Min, Hana Zamri, Haz Yusup, Joanne Loo, Kimberley Boudville, Poojitha Menon, Sarah Radzi, Trina Teoh, and Yazi Jaclyn.

 

Below are the activities lined up during the exhibition:

 

Curatorial Walk-Through (Guided tour)

These walk-throughs, led by the exhibition curator, Elizabeth Low, will offer a unique and immersive experience surrounding the exhibition's theme of touch, and the shared narratives as told by the featured artists. The aim is to create an inclusive and engaging journey for all visitors, regardless of their visual abilities.

 

There is a scheduled session for the general public on the 16th of March from 11:00 am to 11:15 am. Please note that space is limited.

Artist Talk - Multisensorial Art: In conversation with the artists

The Labyrinths of Touch will also be hosting a talk titled "Multisensorial Art: In conversation with the artists" on 18 March 2023, from 11:00am to 1:00pm. This public programme will feature five talented artists - Trina Teoh, Hana Zamri, Sarah Radzi, Joanne Loo, and Kimberley Boudville - who will share their insights and experiences in creating multisensorial artworks for the exhibition.

 

The talk will be moderated by Sharmin Parameswaran, a respected figure in the art community. During the talk, the artists will discuss the importance of multisensorial art and its ability to create accessible and inclusive exhibition experiences for all visitors as well as how the local community can play a vital role in bridging the gap between the artwork and the audiences. Admission to the event is free, but spaces are limited.
