BELAGA, Friday - Maybank and Pos Malaysia Berhad today achieved another milestone in their strategic partnership by extending their Shared Banking services to East Malaysia starting in Belaga, Sarawak.

The strategic partnership to provide Shared Banking convenience for customers was officially launched at Pos Malaysia Benut, Pontian, Johor on 14th January 2011. Pos Malaysia will provide selected Maybank services and targets to expand this facility to more than 400 Pos Malaysia outlets countrywide by year end.

Belaga is among the 51 locations identified in Sarawak and Sabah for the Shared Banking services to a larger base of customers, especially the underserved segment in the rural areas, by leveraging on the vast and extensive reach of Pos Malaysia’s outlets.

The launch ceremony was officiated by YB Dato’ Sri Dr. James Jemut Masing, the Minister of Land Development of Sarawak. Also present were the President & CEO of Maybank, Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and Dato’ Syed Faisal Albar, Group MD / CEO Pos Malaysia Berhad.

In his speech at the event, Dato' Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Maybank President & CEO said, “This shared banking service is part of Maybank’s on-going effort to ensure that every segment of society in Malaysia is able to enjoy banking convenience.

“This partnership is in line with Maybank’s mission of humanising financial services by providing easy access to banking services for the people and being at the heart of the community. We hope that with the banking facilities the community in these areas will have the opportunity to conduct their personal banking transactions such as cash deposits and withdrawals as well as loan repayments at the post office easily and safely.”

In conjunction with the launch of this new service, Maybank donated four computers each to two schools in Belaga, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Belaga and Sekolah Kebangsaan Abun Matu, Belaga as well as two units of fogging machine to Pusat Kesihatan Belaga. Pos Malaysia on the other hand, also donated four computers each to the two schools. “Our contribution reinforces the Bank’s corporate social responsibility initiatives to uplift the status of the underprivileged and communities in need. We hope that the residents will benefit from the facilities and use them to improve their lives and the well being of the community,” said Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid.

“Pos Malaysia believes in giving positive impact to the communities we operate in and we do this by adding value to our range of services to enhance convenience and ease for our customers from all walks of life. Clearly this is another ‘People First’ product, as customers are not only able to pay their bills, renew their driving licenses but also perform banking transactions at our outlets and this solidifies our position as a one-stop centre for various payments and transactions. We are honoured that Maybank has put their trust in Pos Malaysia and decided to leverage on our vast network of more than 700 post offices countrywide to reach out to a larger segment of customers. We believe the strategic partnership will continuously receive overwhelming response and provide shared benefits to both customers of Maybank and Pos Malaysia,” said Dato’ Syed Faisal Albar, Group MD & CEO of Pos Malaysia.
