The children at Rumah Kanak-Kanak Tengku Budriah have a refurbished playground thanks to the contribution and support from Maybank and its employees.

The new playground was jointly launched by the President and CEO of Maybank Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and the Director General of Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) Malaysia, Dato’ Meme Zainal Rashid at a ceremony held at the home recently. Also present at the event were senior management and employees of JKM and Maybank and residents of the Home.

The cost of the refurbishment, which was RM17,000, was raised equally through a contribution from Maybank as well as through charity sales for staff organised by the Basel II Division of  the Bank.

Rumah Kanak-kanak Tengku Budriah is one of the seven homes throughout Malaysia adopted by Maybank under its “Cahaya Kasih” Corporate Social Responsibility programme. Under this programme, employees of the Maybank Group spend time with the children of the home each month to assist them in personal development as well as support them through various activities such as tuition, sports and recreation to guide and inspire them to achieve their highest potential.

In his speech at the event, Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid said that the event was part of Maybank’s efforts to bring festive cheer to the residents of the home.

“Our Cahaya Kasih CSR programme is unique as it involves volunteerism among our employees who want to make a change in the lives of the less fortunate,” he said. “Participating in this programme enables our employees to live out the Bank’s core values of teamwork and relationship building as well as contribute to building a better society.”

At the event, Maybank also hosted a Hari Raya party for the children of the homes and presented them with giveaways for the occasion. The children were also entertained by Maybank’s in-house band, Maystripes and put up a traditional dance performance for the visitors.
