PT Bank Maybank Syariah Indonesia (MSI) is a full-fledged syariah bank established on 11 October 2010. MSI was formerly known as PT Bank Maybank Indocorp (BMI), which was the first Malaysian bank to set up a joint venture bank in Indonesia.
PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk. (BII) was established on 15 May 1959 and licensed as a foreign exchange bank in 1988. It is one of the largest banks in Indonesia, with an international network that comprises 351 branches. BII provides a full range of financial through its branch and ATM network, phone banking and Internet banking channels.
On September 30 2008, Maybank, through a wholly-owned subsidiary, Mayban Offshore Corporate Services (Labuan) Sdn, Bhd. (MOCS), completed the acquisition of 100% of Sorak Financial Holdings Pte. Ltd, owner of 55.51% of the shares of BII. In December 2008, MOCS completed a general tender offer for the remaining shares of BII. As a result, Maybank owns 97.5% of BII through Sorak Financial Holdings and MOCS.
