Maybank continues to provide aid to flood victims - Contributes RM100,000 to Tabung Bencana NSTP-Media Prima

As part of its on-going efforts to help residents affected by the recent floods in several parts of Malaysia, Maybank Foundation today made a contribution of RM100,000 to the Tabung Bencana NSTP-Media Prima at a special event held in conjunction with the Maybank Malaysian Open at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC)

The cheque was handed over by the Chairman of Maybank and Maybank Foundation, Tan Sri Dato’ Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor to Datuk Kamal Khalid, Chief Operating Officer, Group Shared Services of Media Prima Berhad.

"Speaking at the event, Tan Sri Dato’ Megat Zaharuddin said, “As a bank that is close to the hearts of the communities and with a mission to humanise financial services, we believe it is our corporate responsibility to support them especially in difficult times, such as during periods of natural disasters."

“The Maybank Group had come in with various aid programmes when the floods first occurred in December as well as when rehabilitation work began in January. We feel that there is still need for support and we are now channelling our assistance through Tabung Bencana NSTP-Media Prima so that together, we can reach out to even more of those who have been affected. We hope that through this latest donation, they can continue with their efforts to rebuild their lives,” he said.

Tan Sri added that the Group was using the on-going Maybank Malaysian Open 2015 to serve as an avenue to raise funds for the flood victims. A special contest called the ‘Charity Putt Around The World’ was being held at the event whereby participants can test their “putting” skills with a minimum donation of RM5. Winners stand a chance to win the Grand Prize of two flight tickets to Dubai and two VIP Hospitality Passes to watch the Race To Dubai Season Finale. All proceeds from this challenge will be channelled by the Maybank Foundation to MERCY Malaysia to aid flood victims in Kelantan.

Apart from these, Maybank had in December 2014 announced a six-month moratorium on loans as well as waiver of certain charges on a case-by-case basis for customers affected by the floods. The Bank had also organised a special charter flight to transport over 20 tonnes of relief items such as medicine, hygiene kits, food and survival kits to Kota Bahru at the height of the floods in December. In early January, Maybank announced an allocation of RM300 million in emergency financing facilities to help affected loan customers.

The Group also recently entered into a partnership with Mercy Malaysia to provide further assistance to flood victims in Malaysia through contributions totalling RM600,000. The amount is being used for rehabilitation efforts and includes the reconstruction of a surau severely damaged by the floods in Kuala Krai.
