Maybank Foundation today contributed RM 80,000 to the Make-A-Wish Malaysia, to fulfill the dreams of 10 children with life-threatening medical conditions. The first three children identified by the Foundation are Md Ashraf from Pahang, Noor Amyra from Rawang and Qiao Hui from Sungai Buloh.

The amount was presented by the Chairman of Maybank, Tan Sri Dato‟ Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor to the patrons of Make-A-Wish Malaysia, Yang Amat Mulia Puteri Nor Zehan Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj at an event held at Menara Maybank. Also present at the event were Datin Syarifah Farah Gumash bt Syed Hussain Al-Medhwahi, Chairperson of the Foundation and Anthony Ng, Chief Executive Officer of Make-A-Wish Malaysia.

Explaining the background to the event, Tan Sri Dato‟ Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor said, “As part of this year‟s Maybank Malaysian Open Golf event, Maybank offered the opportunity for Malaysian golf fans to tee off with some of the top golfers in the world - the likes of Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington, Matteo Manassero and Charl Schwartzel.”

“On 19 March 2013, eight golf enthusiasts quickly grabbed the chance to do their part for charity under our “Star Experience for Charity” initiative. Each pledged RM5,000 to Make-A-Wish Malaysia. The amount collected was then matched ringgit-to-ringgit by Maybank Foundation, the official corporate responsibility (CR) arm of Maybank Group, resulting in an overall sum of RM80,000 collected.”

Tan Sri Megat added that the fundraising initiative was part of Maybank‟s continuous effort to inject a CR element into its activities and sponsorship programmes. “As a Bank with a mission to humanise financial services, we constantly look for opportunities to remain at the heart of the community.”

“The "Star Experience for Charity" was unique as it helped eight golfing enthusiasts to achieve their hearts desire, while also helping deserving children realise their wishes,” he added.

The wishes of the three children comprised a trip to Universal Studios, a laptop and a visit to Hello Kitty Town in Johor Bahru.

Noor Amyra from Rawang, who has Osteosarcoma, was granted her wish to visit Universal Studios Singapore. Expressing her delight, she told Make-A-Wish Malaysia volunteers that she was very happy and surprised to know that her wish will come true and that she will go to Singapore soon. According to her wish-granters, she had always dreamt of experiencing such an exciting place and thanked Maybank Foundation for this opportunity.

Along side Noor Amyra, Md Ashraf had received a black laptop and Qiao Hui was given a chance to visit the Hello Kitty Town in Johor Bahru.

Tan Sri Megat added that Maybank Foundation looked forward to other opportunities to work with Make-A-Wish Malaysia as one of its potential charities of choice in the field of wellness, leveraging on the strengths of its international recognition and solid fiscal responsibility.

Make-A-Wish is an international foundation that aims to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
