Thirty Maybank security personnel today received their certificates confirming them as Auxiliary Police Officers, after successfully completing a rigorous nine-week training session at the Police Training Academy in Kuala Lumpur.

The 30, who made up the first batch of trainees out of the Group’s in-house security force, underwent the Auxiliary Police Basic Course before they were commissioned as Auxiliary Police staff. They comprised six Security Supervisors and 24 Security Guards.

The 30 were presented their badges and certificates by Maybank President and CEO, Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and the Commandant of the Police Training Academy, Senior Assistant Commissioner Zulkifli Mohamed, witnessed by Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dato' Mohmad Salleh, at a special ceremony in Menara Maybank Kuala Lumpur.

Of the 30 who received their certificates, the six Security Supervisors were awarded the rank of “Inspector” while the remaining 24, including 6 female guards, were made “Constables”.

Speaking on the programme, Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid said that Maybank placed great emphasis on the development of its human capital, especially the career growth of its employees.

“The idea of having our very own Auxiliary Police was mooted two years ago when we met with the Association of Maybank Security Guards. After a series of discussions and careful planning, I’m pleased that this plan has come to fruition today. This is a clear indication of the long-term growth, training, professional and career development that Maybank provides for our employees,” he said.

Dato’ Sri Wahid added that the setting up of the auxiliary police is also something encouraged by the Royal Malaysian Police as it would help enhance the professionalism of security guards.

“While all our security personnel receive the requisite training from Maybank to enable them perform their tasks, this additional certification will boost their skills and abilities to better handle their jobs.”

“The certification comes with added responsibilities as the security personnel are now entrusted with similar authority accorded to the country’s police personnel, including making arrests for criminal offences,” he explained. “This added clout will definitely lead to a higher level of confidence not only among our employees, but also our customers and visitors to our offices.”

The remaining 36 security personnel are currently undergoing training and will complete it by 10 January 2013.

Meanwhile, Mohd Fitri Noor Zaid of Maybank, who was recognised as best trainee for outdoor training among the 240 external candidates in the recent programme, said he was grateful for recognition accorded to him.

“It was really a privilege to attend this programme and I never expected the training to be so rigorous,” said Fitri, 26. “This training not only tested us on our physical and mental strength, but also helped build up our self-discipline.”

He added that he was looking forward to more opportunities to attend further training programmes in the future, “as the challenge will help us to constantly build up our skills and capabilities”.
