Maybank has signed a five-year partnership to be the official retail bank for the first of its kind interactive theme park, LEGOLAND® Malaysia. The partnership will enable Maybank to tap into the country’s growing tourism market as well as build its brand presence to an international audience.

The signing ceremony was held in Menara Maybank today, the signatories for the agreement were, Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, President & CEO Maybank and Mr. Sigfried Boerst General Manager of Legoland Malaysia and was witnessed by Encik Mohamed Adam Wee Abdullah, Chief Marketing Officer Maybank and Ms. Thila Munusamy, Marketing & Sales Director, Legoland Malaysia.

Speaking at the event, Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid said, “This partnership provides us with an opportunity to delight the public through our involvement in Asia’s first ever LEGOLAND®, right here in Malaysia. Under this agreement, Maybank will be the sole provider of retail banking services within LEGOLAND Malaysia as well as the upcoming LEGOLAND Malaysia Water Theme Park and LEGOLAND Hotel.”

Maybank will also be offering special savings and exclusive benefits to its customers in Malaysia and the region. Customers will be able to enjoy special promotions selected periods when payments are made via specific Maybank channels. Additionally, children will also be given discount vouchers and the chance to participate in exciting activities organised by Maybank, subject to promotional offers.

Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid said that LEGOLAND® will also benefit from Maybank’s advanced electronic payment system as it will enjoy cashless payment convenience that will significantly reduce its physical cash handling.

“This will boost its staff productivity and efficiency,” he added. “Apart from this, LEGOLAND® will benefit from our large customer base, which now totals over 20 million worldwide.”

The partnership will also enable Maybank to provide less fortunate children with opportunities to enjoy LEGOLAND®. Maybank Foundation has reserved 1,000 tickets to be distributed to deserving school children and its other beneficiaries. Maybank will, in the meantime, also be organizing various reward programmes to enable underprivileged children to enjoy a visit to LEGOLAND.

Meanwhile, Mr. Siegfried Boerst, General Manager of LEGOLAND® said, "It is truly a privilege to be partnering with Malaysia's largest financial services group. Maybank is an organisation that shares many of our core values; as brands both are dedicated to delivering quality and creating value in people's lives."

"This partnership also demonstrates continuous innovation by both parties to provide customers with the best products and services. Our aim at LEGOLAND® is to facilitate quality family time and ensure we create the right environment for families to do so with ease, " he added.

LEGOLAND® advocates learning through fun and creativity. "We believe a child's education should not limited to conventional methods of learning but enhanced through quality play experience. Hence, why we are positioned as the only theme park in the world where play is learning," Mr. Boerst concluded.

The partnership is a natural step as both brands also own a successful history dating back to the 1960s when Maybank was founded and LEGOLAND® opened its first theme park in Denmark.

Located in Nusajaya, Johor, the interactive park features seven themed areas with more than 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions. Among the key attractions include “MINILAND”. Known as the heart of all LEGOLAND® worldwide, the area features reproductions of famous icons using LEGO® bricks. As a tribute to being the first in Asia, LEGOLAND Malaysia will showcase 17 countries and regions unique to this part of the world. This includes all ASEAN nations and icons such as Taj Mahal, Merlion in Singapore, Angkor Wat and many more.

Even prior to opening, LEGOLAND® Malaysia has already created a record for housing the tallest structure ever built in MINILAND worldwide. The Petronas Twin Towers stands at almost 10 meters in height and took an estimated half a million LEGO bricks to build. The design and construction process took almost a year to complete.

LEGOLAND® Malaysia is open all year round and will be open to the public on 15 September 2012. For more information please visit: www.LEGOLAND.my
