Maybank recognises top achievers with RM300,000 cash awards
More than 550 children of Maybank employees are awarded with the Maybank Group Staff‟s Children Academic Excellence Awards this year, with cash awards totaling over RM300,000.
The cash reward between RM500 and RM2,000 each were given out to students who excelled in the PMR, SPM and STPM examination for 2012. The Academic Excellence Awards instituted in 1986 is part of the Group‟s efforts to recognise as well as inspire children of employees to achieve greater success in their future.
Speaking at a presentation ceremony held for 206 Head Office recipients in Kuala Lumpur, Maybank‟s President and CEO, Dato‟ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said the Academic Excellence Award is one of the many incentives Maybank offers to promote excellence.
“We are proud to note that many children of our staff excelled academically. Each year, we have seen a high percentage of repeat recipients, reflecting their consistency in academic performance,” he said.
Dato‟ Sri Abdul Wahid added that Maybank has various investments for human capital development which include the Maybank Scholarship Awards for young and deserving Malaysians from pre-university to university level with a chance to start their career with the Bank upon graduation.
“For our people at Maybank, we allocate considerable resources towards education and learning to nurture a talented workforce for our sustainable growth and future. Eligible Maybankers also receive „back-to-school‟ financial assistance for their school going children and those entering institutions of higher learning for the first time,” he added.
“We offer a comprehensive learning curriculum for all levels of staff via diverse avenues from experiential learning to mentoring and coaching, classrooms to online learning. Our Staff Education Assistance Scheme provides sponsorship for undergraduate, postgraduate and professional qualifications. We therefore ensure our people are qualified and certified with the right capabilities to perform at their peak with confidence,” continued Dato‟ Sri Abdul Wahid.
He reminded the children that their success was a collective effort of their teachers and parents or guardians. It is important for the children to nurture close family bonding as they grow up and be successful.
“Do remember your parents when you move up in life. Don‟t forget what they‟ve done for you and please do take care of them when they are old,” he advised the award recipients.
One of the recipients of the Award was Leonard Immanuel Nathan who scored 3A+, 4A and 1A- in the SPM examination. “It was a memorable event for our entire family as my sister, Rose Mary Nathan and I received awards today from Dato‟ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar. Receiving a certificate of honour from Dato‟ Sri Abdul Wahid on stage is also a great motivation for us to even do better next time, including taking up the challenge mentioned by him, which is to work hard and become a Maybank Scholar.”
