Maybank ushers the Chinese New Year on a charitable note

Maybank ushered in the Lunar Chinese New Year with an underprivileged elderly group from Ti-Ratana as well as a number of physically & mentally-challenged individuals from the House of Joy.

In line with the Bank‟s mission to humanise financial services across Asia, the celebration of different cultural festivities is part of Maybank‟s annual calendar of events that promote understanding and appreciation of Malaysia‟s diverse cultures.

Guests were treated to a special “Yee Sang” luncheon hosted by Maybank Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor, President & CEO, Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and other members of Maybank‟s senior management team. „Ang pows‟ were also handed out for luck and prosperity, along with goodies such as mandarin oranges and fortune cookies.

Besides celebrating the New Year, guests were also given the opportunity to appreciate paintings done by a group of disabled artists. The artists are selected from employee volunteerism programme called Cahaya Kasih Challenge (CKC), a project initiated by Maybank Foundation.

Commenting at the event, Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said, “We are pleased to celebrate the rich cultures of the diverse communities we serve. Today‟s celebration echoes our ongoing commitment to serve our communities, especially the underprivileged. We care for our communities, and nothing is of greater importance than strengthening our ties with them. At Maybank, we pride ourselves in the rich diversity of our internal and external customer base, more so now as Maybank is currently serving in 20 countries across the globe.”

“This year marks the Year of the Water Snake. In addition to the animal character being a symbol for wisdom, it is also said that sectors associated with banking and financial services will continue to thrive, as we want our customers to make wise decisions and help them achieve financial security and prosperity,” he added.
