Special deals in latest campaign with Gloria Jean’s
Maybank anticipates electronic transaction via debit cards to grow by 67% this financial year over the previous year. This is driven by campaigns with partners to promote debit transactions as well as offer rewards for payments via Maybank debit or credit cards.
The latest such campaign is between Gloria Jean's and Maybank to promote the use of cashless payments at Gloria Jean's outlets. The campaign, from now until 30 June 2010, offers special rewards and discounts on beverages and food for customers using Maybank debit or credit cards at Gloria Jean's outlets nationwide.
Customers spending with Maybankard MasterCard Platinum Debit at Gloria Jean's outlets will receive a free beverage with every purchase of a regular beverage and a 30% discount on cakes from the total bill. Those who pay with Maybankard Visa Debit will enjoy 20% off on all drinks, beans, food and merchandise while those using their Maybank credit cards and the American Express Gold Credit Card will enjoy 15% discount on the same items.
In addition, for every cup of coffee purchased with the Maybank debit or credit card, 50 sen will be donated to the Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak Kanak Kanser (PEKA) to bring cheer to children with cancer.
The joint launch of this special promotion was held at the Gloria Jean's Coffees outlet incorporated with the Maybank Lifestyle Branch at Menara KPMG ,One Utama in Petaling Jaya today. Present were En Ashraf Ali Abdul Kadir, Executive Vice President and Head Cards and Payments, B. Ravintharan, Executive Vice President and Head of Cards, Consumer Banking Maybank and Datuk Ahmad Shalimin B Ahmad Shafie, Chairman of Malaysia International Franchise Sdn Bhd (MyFranchise), the Master Franchise of Gloria Jean's Coffees Malaysia. Also present was Dr Hishamshah Ibrahim, President of Malaysian Society of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, Universiti Malaya.
"We are happy to work with our partner to reward customers who enjoy their coffee and food at Gloria Jean's outlets. At the same time, the charity element in the campaign is to enable customers to bring cheer to those who require assistance for medical treatment,' said Ashraf.
Ashraf also said that the campaign is an ongoing programme by Maybank to support the government's initiative to promote cashless transactions. "Expanding card convenience to cafes also meets the growing lifestyle needs of customers. The special deals for debit card payments will expand the range of services for debit cards particularly. Through promotions such as this latest campaign, we are seeing an uptrend in debit cards being used for payments. Maybank is a leader in promoting cashless transactions using debit cards. Our average monthly debit card spend is RM200 million and in the last six months, debit billings registered a 71% growth compared to the previous period."
"Debit cards offer immense benefits as they do not have any income requirement and are free from annual fees or late payment charges. Maybank's leadership in debit cards is reflected in its card base which represents 48 % of total debit cards issued in the nation," added Ashraf.
