Maybank Group has appointed Michael Foong Seong Yew as Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer.
Michael Foong, 43, will lead the Group Strategy and Transformation for Maybank Group where he will also oversee the Corporate Development office covering merger integration and special projects, as well as the Methods & Systems unit.
Michael joins Maybank Group from Accenture, where he was the Managing Director of the management consulting practice in Malaysia. He spent 17 years working in Accenture serving financial services clients throughout ASEAN and Asia-Pacific, primarily banks but also insurance companies and stock exchanges. In the past nine years, he has focused on developing and implementing large-scale multi-year transformation and change management programmes for banks in Malaysia and Singapore.
In announcing the appointment, Maybank President and CEO Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said, “Michael joins as a key member of the Group Executive Committee and will lead our transformation initiatives in support of Maybank’s vision to become a regional financial services leader by 2015.”
“With his vast experience both in transformation and change management, we are confident that Michael will bring fresh perspective to accelerate our momentum particularly in the current environment that is increasingly becoming more challenging,” he added.
Michael co-managed Accenture’s Asia-Pacific Technology Ventures unit from 2000 to 2002, and after that Accenture’s Asia-Pacific Corporate Development office. He has worked throughout the Asia Pacific area and also spent a number of years seconded to the company’s international offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Sydney, Singapore, Tokyo and Jakarta.
Michael holds a Master of Arts in Economics and Management Studies from Cambridge University. He graduated with a triple first class honours and topped the 1991 graduating class of Cambridge University’s School of Management. He holds an Executive MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, USA.
