Maybank today announced a disaster relief assistance programme offering moratorium on monthly installment payment and waiver of certain charges based on a case-to-case basis till 30 June 2011. These are extended to business, SMEs and consumer customers affected by the recent floods in Perlis, Kedah and Kelantan.
“This is the fourth such moratorium Maybank is offering customers since 2007 to reinforce our corporate responsibility commitment to humanise our financial services. The Bank will process the request for relief assistance on a case-to-case basis,” said Lim Hong Tat, Deputy President and Head of Community Financial Services Maybank.
Lim said that the disaster relief programme is aimed at reducing the difficulties faced by customers who were affected by the floods. “We are well aware that many of the customers affected by the flood may need some reprieve in their financial obligations at this crucial time. We are therefore offering this relief assistance as a humanitarian gesture to assist them focus on their other commitments for the time being.”

“Besides this relief assistance, our insurance and takaful group Etiqa had also offered dedicated 24-hour flood claim hotline numbers and mobilised their units to assist customers in their claims and to date they have processed claims worth RM13.10 million from policy holders affected by the floods in Kedah and Perlis alone,” added Lim. “Maybank and its employees also pooled resources and contributed over RM270,000 to their colleagues affected by the floods.”
Maybank had in the past offered similar disaster relief programmes to those affected by floods in Pahang and Johor as well as the Bukit Antarabangsa landslide.
