In a joint collaboration with nine artists from all over Malaysia, Maybank Foundation – the corporate responsibility arm of the Maybank Group, is holding an art exhibition entitled ‘Melukis: Drawings in Graphite & Ink’ at Balai Seni Maybank. The exhibition is part of its Balai Seni Art Series 2019 which serves to empower the development of local artists, is also aimed at highlighting the struggles of society, lives of the people and celebrating the pure joy of appreciating the many interpretations of fine artworks.

The exhibition showcases 55 artworks created using graphite and ink which are displayed on canvas. They are presented by Arikwibowo Amril, Izzah Nazeri, K.Krishnan, Monica Lee, N.Shanthamathe, Shahbandi Samat, Thangarajoo M.Kanniah, and artists from Persatuan Seni Pensil Warna Malaysia as well as guest artist - S.Amin Shahab.

Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Foundation, Shahril Azuar Jimin said that the exhibition continues to support the Group’s ongoing social mission to honour the creative efforts of local artists as well as celebrate the evolution of the country’s art scene.

“It is a major step forward for the local art industry as Maybank’s Balai Seni Art Series continues to grow in terms of number of artists, artworks as well as visitors. A major factor is also the diversity of the artworks on display which comes from numerous disciplines and medium as well as the background of the featured artists.”

“The concept of ‘Melukis: Drawings in Graphite & Ink’ Exhibition fuses the norms of figurative and non-normative art, giving art enthusiasts a fresh outlook on the meaning of graphite and ink art. For the first time ever, we showcase an exhibition fully dedicated to graphite and ink art aimed at educating and inculcating added appreciation among the public,” added Shahril.

Some of the artworks created by the local artists are up for sale at the exhibition and are priced between RM300 to RM35,000. The artists will be contributing 20% of the proceeds from the sales of artworks to various charitable organisations supported by Maybank Foundation.

In conjunction with the exhibition, a special two-hour colouring workshop under the guidance of the President of Persatuan Seni Pensil Warna Malaysia, Hasren @ Uneh, will be held at 10.00am on Saturday, 22 June 2019 at Menara Terrace, Menara Maybank, Kuala Lumpur.
