- 510 children of employees receive Maybank Group Staff’s Children Academic Excellence Awards

The annual Maybank Group Staff’s Children Academic Excellence Award (MGSCAEA) saw 510 children of employees who scored excellent results in the 2017 public examinations, being presented with cash rewards totalling some RM228,800 this year.

The awards were presented by Maybank Group President & CEO Datuk Abdul Farid Alias and Group Chief Human Capital Officer Nora Manaf to children of employees who obtained excellent results in various public examinations last year, namely Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3), Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM).

“This Award continues to be part of our tradition in recognising high achieving academic performers. It has been part of the Group’s commitment for 32 years, honouring children of our employees and more importantly to further strengthen the relationship between the Group, employees and their children,” said Nora in her speech at the event.

The award ceremony this year also witnessed some repeat recipients, where 35 of them from the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR, now known as PT3) category in 2016 continued their stellar academic performance by receiving high grades in the SPM category this year.

One of the award recipients were twin siblings Navanita a/p Rajasegar and Navaneethan a/l Rajasegar who both scored 3.5 CGPA in the STPM examination. “My decision to decline an offer from a Teacher’s Training College and to continue my education in Form Six was indeed a tough call. This was primarily driven by my new found passion to learn more about the subject of Economics which was offered in the sixth form syllabus. Thankfully, with hard work and strong support from my parents, I managed to come through with commendable results,” said Navanita.

Nur Arissa Maisarah binti Nadhri who scored 8A’s in her SPM dedicated her achievements to her mother who has been an employee of Maybank for more than 20 years. “I’m overjoyed to be one of the award recipients and more importantly, making my mother proud of my achievement. I would also like to thank my teachers who have guided me throughout my learning journey,” said Nur Arissa Maisarah.

Amanda Low Jia En and Yamini a/p Saaran who scored 7A’s and 9A’s respectively for their PT3 examination pointed out that consistency, determination and complete focus are key elements of their success. “Interacting with friends who share similar passions to succeed will help you to achieve your dreams. It is also important that we strike a right balance between studying and making time for hobbies as it provides added focus when preparing for the examination. I look forward to implementing this formula in my future endeavours as it has been helpful in my preparation this time,” said Amanda.

Of the 510 award recipients this year, PT3 had 263, SPM 228, STPM 17 and STAM 2 recipients respectively.
