Maybank Foundation, the corporate responsibility arm of the Maybank Group, today launched a Tiger Art Exhibition, in conjunction with the upcoming Global Tiger Day 2017. The exhibition is being held to raise awareness for tiger conservation, through visual and creative arts.

The event was officially launched by the Chairman of Maybank and Maybank Foundation, Datuk Mohaiyani Shamsudin, together with the Chairman of WWF-Malaysia, YAM Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, the Executive Director/CEO of WWF-Malaysia, Dato’ Dr Dionysius S.K. Sharma, CEO of Maybank Foundation, Shahril Azuar Jimin and member of the Maybank Foundation’s Board of Trustee, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir.

Speaking at the launch, Datuk Mohaiyani Shamsudin said, “Our deep commitment to enhance the level of public awareness has led us to commission an artist and host this exhibition this year. We hope that the works of this talented artist Azaikmal Ahmad Rashid, coupled with information displayed on our conservation programme, will encourage appreciation, prompt contemplation and evoke actions from the public to address the importance of conserving the wild tigers in our ecosystem.”

The exhibition features 15 oil and charcoal paintings by budding local artist Azaikmal Ahmad Rashid, all of which focuses on the beauty of the Malayan tiger. The displays are complemented by educational posters on the importance of the Malayan tigers and the ongoing conservation efforts in Malaysia to educate members of the public of the role they can play in this area.

Azaikmal’s paintings are up for sale and all proceeds will be donated to the Maybank Foundation and WWF-Malaysia tiger conservation fund.

The art exhibition which is being held at Balai Seni Maybank, 1st Floor, Menara Maybank, is open to the public from 9am-5pm daily from 24 to 28 July 2017. Admission is free.

Following the art exhibition, a carnival will also be held on 29 July 2017 at Bulatan Amanjaya, Ipoh, to officially celebrate Global Tiger Day 2017. YBhg. Dato’ Sr. Dr. Azimuddin bin Bahari, Deputy Secretary General (Environmental Management) Office, Dato’ Dr. Muhammad Amin bin Zakaria, State Committee Chairman for Education, Science, Environment & Green Technology (representing Menteri Besar Perak) and the Chairman of Maybank and Maybank Foundation, Datuk Mohaiyani Shamsudin will grace the event to announce Maybank’s commitment to adhere to the Conservation Assured Tiger Standard (C.A.T.S).

C.A.T.S is an accreditation scheme to ensure every aspect needed for effective conservation is in place within an area. C.A.T.S. encourages tiger conservation areas to meet a set of standards as it will assure effective and long term conservation.

At the festival in Ipoh, the public will be able to enjoy various food samplings from local food trucks and exciting activities including a futsal/street soccer competition with participating teams from Maybank and stakeholders involved in the tiger conservation effort.

Global Tiger Day is celebrated every year on 29 July as a way to raise awareness about the magnificent but endangered big cat. In 2010, 13 tiger range countries came together to create “Tx2”, which is the global goal to double the number of wild tigers by the year 2022. In its continued efforts to achieve “Tx2”, Maybank Foundation has committed to support efforts in tiger conservation in the hope that more organisations will also be encouraged to make a similar commitment.

Maybank Foundation is the CSR arm of the Maybank Group, which seeks to positively impact communities in markets that Maybank operates. The Foundation’s programs are focused on six key pillars namely Education, Community Empowerment, Healthy Living, Arts & Culture, Environmental Diversity and Disaster Relief.
