Maybank Ranked Among Top 100 Sustainable Companies in Asia, Top 3 in Malaysia

Maybank was recently ranked as one of the Top 3 companies in Malaysia and Top 100 companies in Asia with the highest sustainability performance. The Sustainability Ranking was undertaken by Channel NewsAsia and is the first of its kind in Asia.

Territories covered were China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. The ranking focuses on Asian companies that are publicly listed on major indices across the 10 key regions mentioned above. The index also highlights the overall Top 20 companies and Top 3 businesses per economy.

The Ranking was a joint-initiative led by Channel NewsAsia, CSR Asia as well as leading environmental, social and governance (ESG) research provider, Sustainalytics. The companies featured among the Top 100 came from a diverse set of industries and were selected on the basis of their performance across a broad range of environmental, social and governance (ESG) indicators tracked in Sustainalytics’ Global Platform. Assessment included companies’ demonstration of strong public disclosure on company-wide ESG management and performance. These companies ranked at the top of their respective industries and within their regions.
Ms Debra Soon, Managing Director of Channel NewsAsia, said, “This is the Asian century, and businesses in the region need to be spot on with their processes to be more effective on the global field.”

Mr Lois Dujardin, Director of Research at Sustainalytics, commented, “Consumers and investors are growing increasingly savvy and they do not just want to buy a product or service, they want to know a lot more about the companies they deal with, like their culture on ethics and responsibility. The Channel NewsAsia Sustainability Ranking provides invaluable insights into corporate practices and in the long run promotes responsible investing in the region.”

Meanwhile, Maybank Head of Group Corporate Affairs & Sustainability, Eliza Mohamed said, “Maybank is pleased to have come out among the Top 3 companies in Malaysia and Top 100 in Asia in terms of sustainability performance. While we continue to expand our business footprint across the region, we stay conscious of the fact that dynamic market conditions necessitate ongoing corporate sustainability efforts.”

“We realise that only through continuous engagement can we identify and address issues that are material to our stakeholders. This enables us to create a sustainable business that encourages holistic growth for all, in line with our mission of ‘Humanising Financial Services’.” she said.
