MAYBANK IN DOUBLE ‘HORSEPERITY’ CELEBRATIONS

Maybank celebrated the Year of the Horse with double celebrations in the Klang Valley this year.

Today, Maybank organised a Chinese New Year celebration at the Beautiful Gate Foundation (BGF), where it presented wheelchairs worth RM100,000 to the foundation. BGF is an association which provides accommodation, training and various services to the disabled. The foundation which operates eight centres nationwide, offers career development, rehabilitation, education, counselling and various training skills. Currently, there are about 120 disabled residing at the eight centres and 1,000 non-residents disabled members.

The Maybank delegation led by Jerome Hon, Maybank Group Chief Operations Officer, witnessed an exciting performance by the BGF Performing Arts Troupe on wheelchairs which has performed across Malaysia and around the region. He also presented gift packs and ang pows to the residents in addition to tossing yee sang with them.

Speaking at the event, Jerome Hon said, “Beautiful Gate is a great example of people striving for independence in their lives. We are especially inspired by its Performing Arts Troupe which has shown beyond doubt that we need not be limited by any disability. Hence, our decision to contribute the 15 dancing wheelchairs and 15 lightweight wheelchairs which will help further enhance their mobility and performance.”

Jerome added that Maybank’s contribution was very much in line with its mission to humanise financial services wherever it operates.

“Through the efforts of our people and Maybank Foundation, we are committed to making a lasting and sustainable impact in the lives of the community. This is reflected in the many social programmes we undertake, including during the many festivals we celebrate,” he added.

He also explained that the contribution to BGF was aligned to Maybank Foundation’s key focus for 2014, which is “Humanising Disability” and that Maybank was also involved in supporting many other initiatives in areas such as education, health, the arts and the environment.

In a separate event earlier this week, Maybank also hosted a Chinese New Year celebration for 50 elderly and 20 disabled guests from Tong Sim Senior Citizens Center, Little Sisters of the Poor and Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Klang at its headquarters, Menara Maybank, in Kuala Lumpur.

The event was hosted by Tan Sri Dato’ Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor, Chairman of Maybank, Dato’ Abdul Farid Alias, Group President & CEO as well as Board members, senior management and employees. The special guests received mandarin oranges and ang pows which was followed by the tossing of yee sang and a private lunch with the senior management team. Guests were also awed by performances of the world champion Khuan Loke Dragon and Lion Dance Association troupe on raised stilts and a special performance by Chung Hong Tsin, a professional wheelchair-bound dancer.
