Star Struck Junior Golfers Learn from Golf Pros at MMO

Over 100 young golfers were in awe as they learnt from some of the Asian Tour’s best golfers in a special golf clinic held in conjunction with the Maybank Malaysian Open at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club today.

The juniors aged between 5 – 16 were given pointers by professionals Danny Chia, Thongchai Jaidee and Pariya Junhasavasdikul that covered tips on putting, chipping and bunker training. It was indeed a memorable occasion for the youngsters to meet and greet their favorite star players in -person and pick up a pointer or two to improve their game.

The young golfers gave their full attention to the professionals as they shared their extensive knowledge of the game and answered queries from the children. The professionals also spent some time to chat with the junior golfers and gave one-to-one instructions to improve the juniors' game before graciously autographing caps and posing for photos with the lucky juniors.

One of the lucky young golfers was Mohd. Azfar bin Anwar, 16 year-old student from SMK Sungai Ara, Penang. Mohd. Azar has been an enthusiastic young golfer since the age of nine, and has represented the state of Penang at national golf tournaments in the last three consecutive years.

SMK Sungai Ara is one of the schools adopted by the Maybank Foundation under its partnership with Pintar Foundation. This sponsorship is in line with the Bank's corporate responsibility initiatives, which employ a holistic approach to its engagement with adopted schools combining the development of education and sports. Both Foundations are committed to promoting intelligence, nurturing talent and advocating responsibility to the schools’ students.

The two hour clinic with the tour professionals proved to be a great success with a combination of beginners and advanced juniors, giving newcomers to the game the extra motivation to pursue golf more diligently while arming the more seasoned young champions with the right knowledge to take their games to the next level.

The privileged youngsters also had a chance to learn a trick or two from the trick maestro himself – David Edwards. Master trick shot ace David Edwards is a renowned golf trick shot artist worldwide. A former European PGA tour player himself, David has appeared in over 50 different countries. David’s mind boggling shots and demonstrations of hand eye co-ordination and timing got all the juniors at the clinic excited and inspired!

Trick shot master, David Edwards will also be entertaining spectators at the Maybank Malaysian Open 2012 from the 12th – 15th of April at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
