Maybank employees brought Christmas joy to 80 children from five homes namely Desa Amal Jireh, Ray of Hope, Rumah Sayangan, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Corner Stone and Persatuan Kebajikan Yesuvin Mahligai (YM) Selangor. Over 100 Maybank employees participated in the activity and made this season more special for all the children involved.
The activities for the day included Christmas caroling from the children who sang popular numbers like Silent Night, O’ Come All Ye Faithful, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, O’ Little Town of Bethlehem and Feliz Navidad, joined by the crowd.
Subsequently, the children formed groups of four to decorate Christmas stockings from the ornaments provided including shiny flecks, sequins, ribbons and buttons - creating festive pieces of art for the walls of their respective homes. The end products were personalised, colourful, and fun stockings. The event not only brought smiles to their faces, but also helped spread the spirit of happiness and joy of the season.
Geoff Stecyk, Head, Enterprise Transformation Systems of Maybank said at the event, “At Maybank, we hold strongly to our tradition of embracing the rich diversity within the Maybank Group and the communities we serve. The Maybank Group is a family of 46,000 from diverse cultures and faiths across 20 countries. It is this diversity that enriches our organisation and also brings out the humanising part of us to respect and appreciate our differences. Celebrating and enjoying each other’s festivities foster greater understanding and acceptance of each other as well as strengthening the unity of the 1Maybank family.”
He added that the Maybank Christmas celebration is a strong testimony of the Bank’s culture and a demonstration of employees living the Group's core values.
“One important DNA trait of Maybankers is our mission to humanise financial services by being at the heart of the community. Maybankers in all 20 countries we are in, whether in London, New York, Beijing, Jakarta, here in Kuala Lumpur or the latest in Laos, have time and again during festive celebrations shown their "Maybank Boleh" spirit of commitment and passion to volunteer their time, resources and service toward communities in need,” concluded Geoff.
The children were also presented with goodie bags comprising stationery from senior management members of Maybank who included Lim Hong Tat, Deputy President & Head, Community Financial Services; Geoff Stecyk; Michael Foong, Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer and Nora Manaf, Head, Group Human Capital.
The event was yet another in the calendar of Maybank’s on-going community initiatives to ensure that the less fortunate are not left out of the festive celebrations. It was also a continuation of Maybank’s commitment in employee volunteerism for the betterment of society.
