Maybank-Pos Malaysia Extend Banking Services to Sabah

Pos Malaysia Berhad and Maybank have extended their shared banking services to Sabah with a target to cover 26 selected post offices in Sabah.

Under this strategic partnership which was launched in Kota Marudu recently, Pos Malaysia will provide a number of Maybank services at its selected offices.

The launch ceremony of the new service in Sabah was officiated by Tandek state assembly member, Ms Anita Baranting. Also present were Maybank Head of Community Distribution, Mohd Hanif Suadi and Chief Operating Officer PosNiaga, Dato' Mearia Hamzah, as well as residents of Kota Marudu, school children and representatives of local government agencies.

The Shared Banking Service allows customers, particularly rural communities, to access banking services using Pos Malaysia's extensive branch network across the country.

Kota Marudu is a rural ecotourism township 130 kilometers away from Kota Kinabalu. Fishing and agriculture, especially palm oil and rubber, make up the main economic activities in the area.

"This partnership is part of the Bank's strategy of humanising financial services by providing convenient access to all our customers and to complement the 17 Maybank branches in Sabah. Our banking services at POS Malaysia outlets reinforce our commitment of being in the heart of the community to serve all segments of society. This is also in line with the government's aspiration to ensure every community enjoys financial services wherever they stay," said Mohd Hanif Saudi.

The initial banking services available at Kota Marudu are over-the-counter services for withdrawal, cash deposit and selected payments. "Maybank-Pos Malaysia also plans to introduce additional services such as money transfer and opening of savings account in the near future. We hope that the presence of our banking services in communities such as Kota Marudu will help spur growth in such townships," added Mohd Hanif.

Meanwhile, Group Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Pos Malaysia, Dato' Syed Faisal Albar, said that Pos Malaysia is committed to provide a positive impact to the community in which it operates. “We can do this by adding value to our services by providing convenience to the customer at all levels of the society. This is in line with the concept of 'People First'. They now can pay bills, renew their driver's license, and do the banking transactions at the post office branch. It reinforces our role as a one-stop center for various payments and transactions," he said.

Dato’ Syed Faisal also said that Pos Malaysia was grateful for having the opportunity to work together with Maybank where the Bank will utilise more than 700 of post offices to reach its customers. “We believe this strategic partnership will continue to receive favorable feedback and will provide mutual benefits to Pos Malaysia and Maybank customers.

In conjunction with the launch of the Pos-Malaysia-Maybank shared banking services in Kota Marudu, a joint Community Day programme was held in the community to enable residents to interact directly with officers of both organisations to better understand the services provided by each organisation. The programme included a financial clinic providing advisory information on personal and financial loans, as well as ASB loans, services offered by the post office, while Maybankers organised a blood donation program and futsal match with local youths in Kota Marudu.
