Maybank Global CR Day

Over 500 Maybank employees together with their President and CEO, Dato‟ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, joined hands to clean-up and paint animal enclosures, undertake general landscaping and repaint the tiger “footprints” around Zoo Negara‟s compound in conjunction with the bank‟s Global CR Day today.

Also present were Dato‟ Ismail Hutson, President Malaysian Zoological Society, Senior Officials from Zoo Negara and special guests which include Zainal Abidin , most known for his hit song, "Hijau‟ and children from Rumah Amal Permata Hatiku & Sanctuary Care Centre.

The CR activity at Zoo Negara was undertaken by the Bank‟s Virtual Banking department. It was part of 150 other initiatives which took place simultaneously around the globe with the participation of 15,000 Maybankers from the Group‟s offices in Malaysia and abroad including in Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei, Hong Kong, China, Bahrain New York and London.

This is the second consecutive year in which Maybank organised such an event for its employees which is believed to be the biggest CR event by a Malaysian company globally.

Prior to the activity at the zoo, Dato‟ Sri Abdul Wahid joined employees from the Finance & Treasury and Group Credit & Risk Management at Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve where they planted trees, spruced up the area and contributed in kind.

Internationally, the Group's operations also made their presence felt in whatever way they could. Maybank London employees created awareness amongst youth by giving a talk on ethical banking practices at the Malaysian Student Department while Maybank Philippines organised a flu vaccination drive for Grades 3 and 4 students at Bagong Silang Elementary School.

Maybank New York collected, sorted and delivered food donated by the staff and the Bank for City Harvest, the world's first food rescue organisation dedicated to feeding the city's hungry men, women, and children.

In Vietnam, Maybank employees contributed to build a house for the handicapped and homeless children studying at the Long Thanh Vocational School. Maybank Cambodia led a community development program in a house-building project and also provided monetary support to fund these houses while Maybank Singapore participated in a massive collection of recyclable materials from all staff called Project ICE (I Care for Earth).

The Global CR Day event was mooted by Maybank in 2010 as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.
