Maybank opens branch Bukit Tinggi shopping centre

Maybank opens branch in AEON's flagship Bukit Tinggi shopping centre

Maybank today officially opened its AEON Bukit Tinggi branch, the first branch at AEON Bukit Tinggi Shopping Centre and simultaneously launched the country's first instant redemption facility Treatspoints for Jusco shopping vouchers at the branch. The Treatspoints redemption will be available from March 15, 2008.

AEON Bukit Tinggi, Malaysia's largest AEON Shopping Centre, also houses the largest Jusco store in South East Asia.

Maybank AEON Bukit Tinggi branch is Maybank's fifth branch located in a shopping complex offering a complete range of services and facilities to cater to customers of the shopping centre as well as the neighbourhood.

Present at the official opening of the branch were Lee Chee Meng, Executive Vice President, Head Network Support, Consumer Banking Maybank as well as Nagahisa Oyama, Managing Director of AEON Company Malaysia Berhad and Poh Ying Loo, Senior General Manager, Business Support, AEON Company Malaysia Berhad.

"Our partnership with AEON has evolved over the years as part of our joint efforts to create greater value for our customers. Jusco has been a leading card merchant both for our credit and debit cards. This partnership subsequently progressed to installation of ATMs in Jusco outlets and AEON shopping centres and now finally the establishment of a full fledged branch in the AEON shopping centre," said Lee in his address.

Lee said that the instant redemption of Jusco vouchers at the Maybank AEON Bukit Tinggi branch was yet another step taken by Maybank to offer enhanced convenience to its customers. Under this scheme, Maybank customers can redeem their Treatspoints for Jusco vouchers on-the-spot at the branch and then utilise the vouchers for shopping at Jusco.

"Not only will this service add value to our current offerings, it also provides tremendous rewards and savings as customers can shop with their loyalty points," said Lee.

"This branch concept goes beyond the usual counter service as it combines conventional banking with facilities of a one-stop financial planning and advisory service centre providing an open environment to the customers. The branch operating hours are also different from traditional banking hours as they will be in line with the shopping centre's business hours, that is, a 7-day a week banking with opening times from 10 am to 9 pm. With this extended opening hours, the customers and the community are able to use our facilities and services conveniently even after work or weekends," added Lee.

"This branch strategy at retail malls has seen a significant increase in our e-channels business, particularly ATM transactions which were 50% higher compared with the average ATM transactions at other Maybank ATMs nationwide," said Lee.

The branch retail environment is designed for maximum efficiency. It has a self service terminal zone equipped with a full range of self service machines such as ATMs, cash and cheque deposit machines for cash and non-cash transactions, bill payments, top ups for mobile phones or Touch n' Go Card as well as Internet banking. There are also areas for advisory and counter services.

"The branch and the innovative Treatspoints redemption programme is in line with our strategy to provide a number of innovative facilities and services to enhance customer banking experience. This branch also complements AEON's concept of a 'family lifestyle shopping centre'," added Lee.

Lee also said Maybank will continue to support businesses and the community with more innovative financial and banking products to meet their needs. "We aim to roll out five more branches in shopping malls by June 2009 to cater to the ever growing segment of customers who will benefit from this new concept of banking."
