Maybank Shanghai is a full-service branch that commenced operations on 28 December 2000. It is the first and only Malaysian bank to be granted a banking licence by the People's Bank of China. The current principal business activity of the branch is primarily wholesale banking denominated in both Renminbi and foreign currency (mainly in US Dollars).
The focus of Maybank Shanghai is to serve Malaysian, Singaporean and ASEAN customers with investments in China and involvement in international trade with China. Additionally, the branch also participates in the promotion of trade and investments between Malaysia, Singapore, ASEAN and China. The branch is also keen to explore financing for foreign-invested ventures from other countries.
Profitable Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOE) that have the approval from the State Administration for Foreign Exchange (syndicated facilities) to borrow in foreign currency and expatriates working with MNCs in China who wish to take the opportunity to secure retail loans for the purchase of residential properties will also be considered.
